Zone 3, which is the last remaining open zone, is scheduled to be closed Dec 23rd at 5pm.
This will officially bring the statewide wolf hunt to a close two months ahead of schedule.

According to Kurt Thiede, DNR Lands Division Administrator, Zone 3 harvests slowed after deer hunting closed but then it picked up again. The season is being closed with zone 3 reaching 17 harvested wolves instead the posted 18 to prevent over harvest.

As fast as the quota was met just indicates a much healthier wolf population than what was first thought. I can see where there will be more tags issued in the next few years. I've seen it with fishers when they were re-introduced. Give it a couple years and they will have a better idea of how many are really out there. I'm sure its quite a few more than the 800 they claim now.

I agree. Look how many years they tried to deny the existence of wolves

Duane, there are not too many places we have called coyotes that we didn't see wolf tracks.
I think they need to get the deer counters to count wolfs, there seems to be problems with both sets of numbers.
